Volunteer Spotlight: Barb Youngmann

Barb Youngmann is a marketing professional working for Hartland wealth advisers. She is a member of the hospitality committee and loves Cleveland sports teams.

What is your Volunteer Position?
I am a volunteer on the hospitality committee.

What types of activities are you in charge of?
After-event surveys, event check-ins, table set-ups, helping out to make sure the events run smoothly.

Who are you? Please tell us a little about yourself.
I earned my BA from the College of Wooster (Go Scotts!) in Sociology and my MA in Marketing and Advertising from the Leeds University Business School, Leeds, England. My career started at and continues to be with Hartland, an independent institutional and private wealth advisory firm, located downtown. I am a Marketing Associate and I am excited to take our message to new territories and expand our geographic footprint. The firm had two acquisitions last year and continues to grow from the original office downtown to 4 others including Portland, Maine, New York City, and Columbus, Ohio. Our communications strategies are changing to address a larger client base and prospects. Two female leaders of our firm established HEELS (Hartland Empowers Exceptional Ladies) in 2015 and it is an initiative I am very excited to be a part of.

Why did you join the AMA?
I joined the AMA because I knew it was a great opportunity to meet the area’s best marketers, learn about new trends and concepts, and access a library of resources.

What do you love about volunteering?
I really enjoy working with the other volunteers and board members, helping to prepare the space or table that will welcome the attendees, as well as getting an opportunity to meet everyone as they come to an event.

What are your hobbies?
I live right off Big Creek Parkway, so I love to do anything on the trails (biking, walking, running), keeping up with my favorite teams (all the Cleveland teams, the Buckeyes, and my favorite Manchester City football club), knitting, and brewing beer with my husband.

What are three interesting facts about you?
I lived in England for 2 years for my degree and I would love to work abroad at some point.

In high school, I was a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus and performed at Severance Hall.

I have known my husband since we were six years old and attended elementary school together.

If you could be one character in Mad Men (or any other television show) who would it be?
Jessica Day from New Girl.  She doesn’t exactly have it all together, but she does know what she wants and is unwilling to accept anything else.  Also, I love her style.

What are your career and/or personal ambitions?
To be the director of a marketing department and an integral member of a nonprofit organization.

What is your dream position or company that you would like to work for?
I would love to work for Burberry in London.  It’s such an iconic brand with a rich history and I would get to live in England again!
