Volunteer Spotlight: Lisa Ferian

November’s Volunteer of the Month is Lisa Ferian. Lisa is the Cleveland AMA’s Webmaster/Blog Coordinator. Her main focus is on editing and coordinating any and all content that is to be posted on the Cleveland AMA website including job postings, events, campaigns, and blogs. She also works on gathering and recruiting submissions for the blog.

Who are you?
I graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a B.A. majoring in English with a minor in Spanish. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree at John Carroll University in Communication Management. I’ve been a Marketing Communications Specialist at Invacare Corporation for two years. Invacare manufactures home medical equipment such as power wheelchairs, walkers, manual wheelchairs, and home medical oxygen products. A lot of my day-to-day work includes providing copy for web, ads, and other marketing materials. I also oversee the advertising and social media. Right now I’m excited about planning new initiatives and integrated marketing campaigns for next year.

Why did you join the AMA?
I joined the AMA for the opportunity to learn more about new trends in marketing from my peers.

What do you love about volunteering?
I definitely enjoy working with all of the other volunteers and having a chance to do some projects I wouldn’t normally do at my current job.

What are your hobbies?
I like working out and staying active. Although I don’t get to do it as much as I’d like, I’m very into horseback riding. My fiancé and I love going out to eat, trying new places, and traveling when we can.

What are three interesting facts about you?
1. I strongly support the Oxford comma.
2. I once compiled (and reviewed) so much data for an internship I hit the row limit in Excel 2003: 65,536. (that may be more sad than interesting…not sure)
3. When I was 16, I won an egg and spoon horseback riding contest (Walk, trot, canter, do obstacles, etc., while holding an egg on a spoon).

If you could be one character in Mad Men who would it be?
I think I’d pick Joan. She always carries herself gracefully and is resourceful in high pressure situations.

What are your career and/or personal ambitions?
I’m open to whatever the future brings my way. I’d like to continue along the same lines of work I am doing. The cool thing about marketing and communications management is that it’s applicable to so many markets.

What is your dream position or company that you would like to work for?
I’d like to continue to work for a company that truly helps people and is rewarding. I think that working at a place like Make a Wish Foundation would be a great experience. At the same time, I’ve always wanted to work in publishing, so that would be interesting, too.
